The mayor of Berezovsky, a city where a “technical” candidate first beat him in the elections and then challenged her victory, resigned

On April 20, the Berezovsky Duma of the Sverdlovsk region accepted the resignation of the head of the city, Evgeny Pistsov. He has led the municipality since 2011 and, according to media reports, wrote a statement of his own free will, “in connection with the transition to a new position.”

• The resignation is the end of the protracted conflict surrounding the mayoral election. Let us recall that in January 2025, deputies unexpectedly elected Yulia Maslakova, an employee of the administration and Pistsov’s only rival, as head of the city. She was called the "spoiler candidate" and his driver's wife.

• Maslakova tried to recuse herself during the voting, and after her victory she refused the position - she said that she was not ready to work “in an atmosphere of conflict.” Then she sued the very Duma that elected her, and in March got the decision overturned.

• Amid the scandal in July, deputies again supported Pistsov: 16 out of 18 people voted for him, citing, among other things, the position of Governor Denis Pasler. Now the Duma unanimously dismissed Pistsov.

• According to media reports , the plenipotentiary representative of the Sverdlovsk governor, Vladimir Shauraks, has already been appointed acting head.
