There have been no letters from Svetlana Savelyeva, who was sentenced to 15 years for “attempted treason,” since March 28, her mother Lyudmila told the People of Baikal publication*.
Svetlana could have been sent to prison after the verdict, the publication notes.
According to Lyudmila’s mother, the security forces are deliberately depriving Savelyeva of the opportunity to correspond with her family after her case was covered in the media. The woman wrote a complaint to the prosecutor's office.
Savelyeva was sentenced to 15 years in prison . According to investigators, she was allegedly preparing to serve in the Ukrainian army. Savelyeva was detained in the Kursk region in 2024: during the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, she tried to cross the border to meet her fiancé, who served there.
The verdict was announced on April 1, the defense intends to appeal the decision and Savelyeva must remain in pre-trial detention until the appeal is considered. She has heart and musculoskeletal diseases, and, according to her mother, during the year in the isolation ward the woman lost weight to a critical condition.
Savelyeva stated that FSB officers tortured her for two months after her arrest.
The disappearance of prisoners during transit is a constant problem for their families. HRC member Eva Merkacheva, having become involved in the case of another missing prisoner, Nikita Zhuravel, proposed introducing a system of automatic notification of relatives about the prisoner’s movements - via SMS or through “State Services” (with the consent of the prisoner himself).
