Australian flags flown in Washington ahead of Charles III's visit
Authorities in Washington mistakenly placed Australian flags near the White House ahead of the visit of British King Charles III. Reuters reports this.
According to the agency, 15 Australian flags were among about 230 flags hung in the city center on the occasion of the monarch's visit. A mistake was made by the services responsible for street improvement.
The District of Columbia Department of Transportation said that the flags have already been replaced, and now the king is greeted exclusively with British symbols.
De jure, Charles III remains the head of Australia, but this post is nominal.
The state visit is timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence. The trip is aimed at strengthening allied relations, which, as Reuters notes, have become complicated due to the situation around Iran.
In addition to Washington, Charles III and Queen Camilla are expected to visit New York and Virginia.
