A Russian drone probably fell in Romania and damaged property
In Romania, near the border with Ukraine, the wreckage of two drones was discovered on April 25. One of them reportedly fell near the city of Galati and damaged property in the fall. There were no casualties. The second drone, as stated in a statement by the country's Ministry of Defense, was discovered in the area of a farm near the village of Vekereni in Tulcea County.
Romanian authorities blamed the incident on Russia, which on Saturday night subjected Ukraine, including the Odessa region bordering Romania, to a massive drone attack. The Russian Ambassador was summoned to the Romanian Foreign Ministry.
The drone, the wreckage of which was found in the city of Galati, damaged an electric light pole and an outbuilding. Russian drones have previously flown into Romania and crashed in the country, however, as the country's President Nicusor Dan said, this is the first time a drone has damaged property in Romania.
Two RAF Eurofighter Typhoons were scrambled at 2 a.m. from Fetesti Air Base. The pilots received permission to shoot down the drones. The Romanian Ministry of Defense strongly condemned Russia's irresponsible actions, as stated in the statement, and emphasized that they constitute a new challenge to regional security and stability in the Black Sea region.
The Russian side has not yet commented on the statements of the Romanian authorities.
