Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky arrived in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, on Sunday. This is his first visit to a country that is part of a number of associations with the participation of Russia (including the Collective Security Treaty Organization, although it has suspended its participation in it), but has recently been striving for rapprochement with the EU.
Zelensky is holding bilateral meetings in Yerevan on Sunday. Among his interlocutors are the prime ministers of Norway, Finland, the Czech Republic and Great Britain. On May 4, he is expected to participate in the summit of the European Political Community. This initiative was created at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and several other leaders shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. It unites almost all European countries (except Russia and Belarus) - both members and non-EU members.
As the EU Council said in a statement, the summit will be attended by leaders of 48 countries (including partially recognized Kosovo), the leaders of the EU, NATO and OSCE are invited, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is also invited as a guest. The leaders will also discuss economic and energy security against the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East. A separate EU-Armenia summit will also take place.
The administration of French President Emmanuel Macron, who will also arrive at the summit and then make an official visit to Armenia, reported that new measures to support Ukraine will be discussed on the sidelines of the meeting. Zelensky will also take part in this discussion.
