“Our Lenochka is gone.” Member of the KVN team “Burnt by the Sun” Elena Rybalko died

She was one of the brightest stars of the team, but did not build a career in show business and continued to live in Sochi

Elena Rybalko, a member of the KVN team “Burnt by the Sun,” died in Sochi on May 1. Information about her death was confirmed by the artist’s husband and the International KVN Union. She was 53 years old. Rybalko was one of the most notable members of the KVN team “Burnt by the Sun” - she performed with Mikhail Galustyan and Alexander Revva in the KVN Major League in the late 1990s - early 2000s. The team "Burnt by the Sun" - the champion of the KVN Major League in 2003 - had many characteristic characters, as they would be called, following the classification of roles entrenched in the European theatrical tradition since the 17th century. And although KVN is extremely far from classical theater, the Sochi team was intuitively divided into roles precisely in accordance with this tradition. The most prominent participants can easily be assigned their own roles: Mikhail Galustyan is a simpleton or lackey, Alexander Revva is a hero-lover or a king. The place of the ingénue was obviously occupied by Elena Rybalko, or simply Lena, as she was called on stage and throughout the country, a small blonde with a bright look.

Many of the jokes of the team, which became the most successful and brightest at the beginning of the 2000s, will today cause a feeling of awkwardness. Probably precisely because the authors of the famous sketches - probably not out of malice, but again intuitively - followed a simple path, making jokes about the appearance of their main stars. Misha is small, big-nosed, hairy (it’s impossible to list how many miniatures were built simply on his organic material - from “Gadya Khrenova” to Grandma Siranush). Alexander Revva's large facial features obliged him to play either grandmothers or womanizers (the masculine image won - that is why today we are dealing with such a pop culture phenomenon as Arthur Pirozhkov).

Lena got it in a special way.

A quick search for Burnt by the Sun sketches with Lena in all cases turns up skits and jokes about what she looks like. In the miniature "Malchish-Kibalchish", where the white commander (Revva) tortures Kibalchish (Galustyan), Lena acts as the pioneer's sister - at first the tormentors want to take her by the chest so that Malchish will split, but then they look at her and refuse. “You’re lying, you won’t take it!” - says Lena. “I’m lying, I won’t take it,” Revva replies.

In a skit where each team member played an alien (you may remember it well from the punch with Swabroid), Lena was carried onto the stage in a baby sling attached to the back of a large teammate. Her heroine's name was Two-Faced Polysis.

In a miniature about the adventure show “Fort Boyard”, Lena was sent to the test “as the strongest and most agile member of the team” - this description alone made the audience laugh. As the action progressed, Lena killed a lion, found a key under an elephant, and at the end met “a little spider with the face of a hamster.” When this happened, Revva said: “Hurray, the task is completed, Lena found a mirror!”

Finally, probably the most famous number with Lena’s participation - “Department of Nuclear Physics at the Institute of Resort Business and Tourism” - was a sketch in verse in which two little scientists (Lena, 1 meter 47 centimeters tall, and Galustyan, 1 meter 63 centimeters tall) thought about love. According to the plot, Lena pestered Misha, expecting reciprocity from him. He kept dodging - he joked that Shakespeare wrote Yorick from her, and the parameters of Lenin's figure - 90-60-90 - are written in millimeters. The poetic scene ended with the line: “There are only two troubles in Russia - Mishanya Galustyan and Lena.”

In 2016, when KVN turned 55, Burnt by the Sun, together with other bright teams, took part in a festive skit. By that time, the program had already become heavily bronzed, instead of cute student skits played out in sparse settings (in “The Department,” for example, only one chair was involved), the show now had status and gloss. Jokes appeared about the “successor” - meaning, of course, Maslyakov Jr., who was sitting in the front row at the concert, not far from Vladimir Putin.

It was at that concert that Mikhail Galustyan performed a parody of Ramzan Kadyrov - the head of the Chechen Republic stated that he personally helped the comedian prepare for this act. Lena got two jokes at that concert, a reworked version of the song “Cuckoo”: “How many pensions have not yet been received? Tell Ku-kudrin, sing!”, as well as the role of “a woman - an old cat” in a sketch about superheroes.

In that same 2016, Galustyan already had great media weight - after “Our Rashi” he continued to star in TNT comedy projects, for example in the series “The Bearded Man”. Alexander Revva has been pursuing a musical career in the guise of Arthur Pirozhkov for several years now. Elena Rybalko continued to live in Sochi, where she raised three children and taught beginners to play KVN.

A year after the anniversary release on Channel One, a local Sochi project invited Lena to a makeover show - the “Transfiguration” program.

Judging by how often the names of hotels, restaurants, clinics and beauty salons are pronounced in it, which the heroine must visit during the 12 days of her transformation, the purpose of this project was primarily of an advertising nature. However, the episode with Rybalko begins dramatically - Lena said that she did not immediately watch the concert “55 Years of KVN” because she simply could not see herself: “My face is just terrible. I couldn’t watch this recording for four days.”

The presenter, before starting the “transformation,” asked meaningfully: “How did you go from being “tired of the sun” to becoming tired of yourself?” Lena answered: “I stopped paying attention to myself. Routine, everyday life.” During the “transformation,” Lena was injected with fillers into her nasolabial folds, had her hair extended, had her teeth whitened, and was asked to wear bright scarves with exotic prints on her head “to remain as bright.” Judging by the appearance, Rybalko was satisfied with the transformation.

Lena did not become a big television star, although it is difficult to imagine “Burnt by the Sun” without her. She was born and studied in Adler: in elementary school she played the piano, chess and volleyball, in middle school she built model airplanes in the Young Pilot club, in high school she completed cutting and sewing courses, after which she worked as a seamstress in a souvenir factory. At the technical school I studied to be an accountant, then at Sochi State University to become an economist. There she played the institute’s KVN, and so actively that she eventually became a cultural worker at the university. “Burnt by the Sun,” which was just forming its cast at that time, really lacked female characters - and Lena just got on the team.

On May 1, 2026, Elena Rybalko died - they write that she was crossing the road in the wrong place in Adler, she was hit by a Toyota, she died on the spot. The death was confirmed by her husband. She was 53 years old.

The International KVN Movement expressed condolences: “The death of Elena is an irreparable loss for everyone who knew this wonderful girl. At this difficult hour, we share the pain of the family and everyone who was lucky enough to know Elena.” Mikhail Galustyan, in a commentary to TASS, said: “It’s a shame that our Lenochka left. Blessed memory to her. Woe to the children, condolences. We remember her as a very cheerful, active, cheerful girl. I did some of the best numbers in KVN with her.”

Rybalko was, of course, not the first ingénue in the history of Russian and Soviet pop culture. For example, the actress Yanina Zheimo, who played Cinderella in the famous Soviet film fairy tale, was the same height - 1 meter 48. In the films she also played either boys or naive princesses, and also often amused the audience: for many years she worked in the circus, was an equestrian, gymnast, and ballerina. For a second such Cinderella, alas, there was no place in modern pop culture - we don’t know why. But we can assume that not only everyday routine, but also comedy, played a role.
