Amsterdam has become the first capital in the world to ban advertising of meat and products made from fossil fuels, writes BBC News.
From May 1, advertising of such goods and services, including burgers, cars and air travel, is prohibited in public places. Now, the publication writes, museums and concerts are advertised on billboards, in public transport and at bus stops.
The ban, as noted, applies only to advertising platforms that belong to local authorities. It does not apply, for example, to print and digital media and private stores.
In this way, the city authorities want to help achieve national goals of minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and halving meat consumption by residents by 2050.
At the same time, notes BBC News, the share of advertising of goods and services related to hydrocarbon raw materials before the ban reached 4% of all advertising in the city, and meat - 0.1%.
