Russia and Ukraine continue strikes despite the regime of silence

Against the background of the declared truce, the parties continue to exchange blows. Fighting on a number of sectors of the front does not stop

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga said that Russia violated the ceasefire proposed by Ukraine and which came into force at midnight from May 5 to 6.

According to him, during the night Russian forces attacked Ukrainian territory with 108 drones and three missiles. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 89 drones were shot down.

“Russian attacks using 108 drones and 3 missiles continued throughout the night, including morning strikes on Kharkov and Zaporozhye,” Sibiga wrote on the social network X.

He said that Moscow “rejects peace” and its proposals for a truce on May 9 “have nothing to do with diplomacy.” The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called for new sanctions against Russia and increased support for Kyiv.

Attacks on Ukrainian regions

According to the Ukrainian authorities, the Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Sumy, Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk regions were attacked at night.

In the Novobavarsky district of Kharkov, two people were injured and private houses were damaged. In the Zaporozhye region, the blow hit an industrial facility. In Kherson, drones attacked residential buildings; three people were injured in the resulting fires.

The State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations reported that four people were killed in the Dnipropetrovsk region and another 19 were injured. Infrastructure was damaged in the Krivoy Rog region, and an administrative building, a hotel, residential buildings and cars were damaged in the Nikopol region.

A day earlier, according to the Ukrainian side, Russian strikes killed 27 people and injured more than 120. Mourning was declared in the Zaporozhye region.

The Russian side claims attacks by Ukrainian UAVs

Russian military sources, on the contrary, claim massive attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian territory.

According to them, air defense forces destroyed more than 600 Ukrainian drones in one day, including 289 drones over the Sea of ​​Azov and 19 regions of Russia. On May 5, in Cheboksary , as a result of the attack, a residential building and an industrial facility, VNIIR-Progress, were allegedly damaged, two people were killed, and 32 more were injured.

A fire was also reported on the territory of the KINEF oil refinery in the Leningrad region, as well as injuries in the Bryansk and Belgorod regions.

The Russian Defense Ministry says it is responding by striking Ukraine's military and energy infrastructure, including rail logistics, fuel depots and port facilities in Odessa.

What's happening at the front

On the front line, the parties also give opposite assessments of the situation.

Ukrainian sources claim that Russian attacks in the Kharkov, Pokrovsky, Konstantinovsky and Zaporozhye directions did not lead to significant advances. According to Kyiv, Russian troops continue to use small assault groups with motorcycles, buggies and electric scooters, but Ukrainian forces are holding their positions and launching counterattacks.

It is also reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike targets in the territories of the Luhansk region and Mariupol occupied by the Russian army.

Russian military channels, in turn, announce the advancement of the Russian Armed Forces in the Sumy, Kupyansky, Krasnolimansky and Konstantinovsky directions, as well as heavy battles near Kupyansky, Chasovy Yar and Novopavlovka.

There is no independent confirmation of the parties' data.

Attacks on Russian oil infrastructure

Ukraine continues its campaign of attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. In recent weeks, targets have come under attack in Tuapse , Primorsk, Ust-Luga, Novorossiysk and Perm.

The Wall Street Journal notes that Ukrainian drones have caused serious damage to individual oil facilities and caused large-scale fires, but have not yet led to a long-term decline in Russian oil exports .

The publication writes that after attacks, ports and terminals often return to normal operation within a few days. According to analysts, the total volume of seaborne Russian oil exports in April remained at about 3.5 million barrels per day.

At the same time, Ukrainian attacks on oil refining capacities still reduced the export of petroleum products: supplies of fuel oil in April decreased by 34%, diesel - by 12%.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has previously called such attacks “long-range sanctions.”
