US President Donald Trump announced a three-day truce between Russia and Ukraine, timed to coincide with Victory Day. It will last from May 9 to 11.

Truce conditions. The ceasefire will include a suspension of all hostilities, Trump said. Moscow and Kyiv will also exchange 1,000 prisoners.

According to Trump, it was he who initiated the truce, and Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky supported it.

“I hope this is the beginning of the end of a very long, bloody and difficult war. Negotiations to end this major conflict, the largest since World War II, continue, and we are getting closer to our goal every day,” the US President wrote.

What did Ukraine answer? Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Kiev is ready to observe the ceasefire on May 9, 10 and 11. He also confirmed that the parties would transfer 1,000 prisoners of war to each other. At the same time, Zelensky noted that Ukraine will observe the principle of mirroring in the issue of strikes.

“The principle of mirroring in our actions is well known and has been proven to the Russian side. An additional argument for Ukraine in determining our position is always the solution to one of the key humanitarian issues of this war, namely the release of prisoners of war. Red Square is less important to us than the lives of Ukrainian prisoners who can be returned home,” the Ukrainian president wrote.

He thanked Trump and his team for their diplomatic involvement and expressed hope that Washington will convince Moscow to respect the truce.

A decree “permitting” the holding of the Victory Parade on Red Square in Moscow appeared on the website of the President of Ukraine.

What Russia responded. The Kremlin also supports Trump’s proposal for a three-day truce and prisoner exchange, said Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

“On instructions from Vladimir Putin, I confirm the acceptability for the Russian side of the initiative just proposed by US President Donald Trump regarding a truce for the exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine,” said Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov.
