On the evening of May 8, when about 12 hours remained before the start of the Victory Day parade in Moscow, US President Donald Trump announced a three-day truce in the war between Russia and Ukraine - from May 9 to 11. According to Trump, the truce was his initiative, which Ukraine and Russia supported. In addition to stopping hostilities for three days, Trump added, the Russian Federation and Ukraine agreed to exchange prisoners of a thousand people on each side.
Authorities in both Russia and Ukraine confirmed they agreed to Trump's proposal, and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky issued a decree "permitting" the May 9 parade to take place in Moscow. The document indicates the coordinates of Red Square, which he instructed to “exclude from the plan for the use of Ukrainian weapons.”
Ukrainian military commanders reported in morning reports that Russia had launched drones and a ballistic missile on the evening of May 8, but did not announce a violation of the truce that began at midnight. Also in the reports there is no mention of clashes after midnight.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov on the morning of May 9, before the start of the parade in Moscow, said that there were no attempts to disrupt the Victory Day celebrations. “They didn’t try anything, everything is fine,” he told reporters. There have been no reports of any incidents during military parades in Russia. The parade on Red Square in Moscow was shorter than usual - it lasted 45 minutes , without military equipment, but with an air unit and North Korean military .
Shortly after the parade in Moscow ended, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Ukrainian military did not comply with the ceasefire and tried to carry out “12 attacks on the positions of Russian units,” to which the Russian Armed Forces responded “in a mirror manner.” The Russian military itself, assures the Russian Ministry of Defense, “continues to observe the ceasefire and remain in their assigned positions” (quote from Interfax).
The Russian authorities are not currently considering extending the ceasefire after May 11, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. “The truce is now 9-10-11 [May], there were no other conversations,” he told reporters.
US President Donald Trump, in turn, said that he was ready to send a delegation to Moscow for peace talks “if it helps” to stop the war. Russia, according to Peskov, is always ready to receive such a delegation, but “so far there are no specifics on this matter” (quote from TASS).

Dmitry (Lvov) . I sympathize and empathize with each of the readers and do not judge the people who remained in Russia - everyone survives and copes as best they can. From the first day of the full-scale war (everyone here speaks Ukrainian “povnomashtabka”) I had neither a surge of patriotism nor a desire to become part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I remember that morning and the confusion - the world had gone crazy and had still not returned to normal.
I have a good remote job and the opportunity to build a career; in the future I see myself and my wife emigrating. I almost never leave the house, the TCC is especially brutal now, if there is no reservation, then it’s better not to leave the apartment at all. It seems that after March 2020 and Covid, I lived a normal life for just a few weeks...
I would like to appeal to everyone who reads Meduza - I believe that most of us are People first, and only then Ukrainians, Russians, Jews, Tatars and representatives of other ethnic groups and cultures. The war will certainly end. Men in Ukraine who do not want to serve in the Ukrainian army will go abroad and never return, because they will not forgive those years of life when they were denied the right to choose - or rather, they were given the dubious “serve or hide”, and we will not let you go to other countries (unless you give a bribe of 5-10-16 thousand dollars). Running over the mountains or diving into the Tisa is stupid and risky, although some people succeed.
I know that no matter where I live, in a few years I will meet bright and kind people who, like me and my family (wife and cat), are forced to start life anew because of the cannibalistic authorities in the Kremlin and the stupid and greedy authorities in Ukraine. Residents of Odessa, Kharkov residents, Muscovites, Kazan residents and Krasnoyarsk residents - in Spain or Italy we, you and I, may one day become friends. Keep hope, grit your teeth and trust yourself and your heart. As long as we live and act according to our conscience and our convictions, we will cope with everything.
