On the morning of May 9, 2026, mobile Internet was turned off in the center of Moscow. Previously, the Ministry of Digital Development warned about possible restrictions on the day of the Victory Parade. The department noted that this is necessary “to ensure the safety of festive events.” The previous large-scale shutdown of mobile Internet was on May 5 - it affected Moscow, St. Petersburg and a number of other Russian cities.
Judging by the graph of the Downdetector service, at approximately 9:00 a slight increase in complaints about problems with network access began in Moscow. However, in general, their number did not exceed the usual figures recorded on other days. Around noon, after the end of the parade, the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development reported that mobile operators began to restore access to Internet resources: first only for sites from the “white list”, and from 13:00 - in full.
The restrictions affected mainly the center of the capital, writes MSK1, citing reports from readers. For residents of the central regions, mobile Internet did not work (including sites from the “white list”), and SMS messages were not sent. As a result, people lost access to instant messengers, banking applications and delivery services, adds the SecurityLab portal.
In St. Petersburg, where there have been noticeably more complaints about the operation of the mobile Internet in recent weeks than in Moscow, there were no serious problems with the network on May 9. A correspondent for the Fontanka publication notes that the Internet worked stably even during the parade on Palace Square.
Residents of some other Russian cities also reported interruptions in mobile Internet service. For example, communications in Krasnoyarsk and Krasnodar were unstable. “As usual: in one place it catches poorly or even flies away, but as soon as you walk a hundred meters, you connect to another cell tower, and the rules are completely different,” noted a correspondent for the Krasnoyarsk Online publication (NGS24.ru).
The authorities of Murmansk , Volgograd , Yaroslavl , Kurgan and other cities also announced planned restrictions on the mobile Internet on May 9. At the same time, in some regions (for example, in the Omsk region ), residents were informed in advance that no communication restrictions were planned on that day.
Almost all Russian Internet services worked normally on the morning of May 9. However, residents of different cities complain about problems with access to the website of the Immortal Regiment movement. In the comments they write that the site either does not open at all or cannot load the necessary content and displays an error. At the time of publication of this text, people left more than 300 complaints. In Moscow, the Immortal Regiment march was canceled this year - the event is taking place online.
