An 18-year-old student from Voronezh was given 6 years in prison in the case of Columbine and M.K.U.

The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced 18-year-old first-year student Yaroslav Koptilov to 6 years in a general regime colony and a fine of 40 thousand rubles in a criminal case for teaching terrorism and participating in a terrorist organization, the court’s press service reported .

The teenager was accused of planning to carry out an attack “on educational institutions and places of mass gathering of citizens, including those of non-Slavic appearance” from “right-wing radical and nationalist views.”

In particular, he was charged that from March 2022 to April 2025, he purchased knives, blades, stun guns, brass knuckles, an incendiary mass of match heads, and also wrote down in notebooks and saved in a telegram recipes for making “flammable/incendiary mixtures.”

The FSB linked Koptilov’s interests with the ideas of the non-existent Columbine and M.K.U. movements, which are recognized as terrorist in Russia.

It is not specified when exactly the teenager was detained. In August 2025, 17-year-old Koptilov was added to the Rosfinmonitoring register with a note that proceedings were being conducted against him for terrorist offenses.
