Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said Russian troops attacked residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic and other civilian infrastructure.
“These are definitely not the actions of those who believe that the war is coming to an end,” Zelensky wrote . He called on Western partners to continue supporting Ukrainian air defense and increase pressure on Russia.
European leaders also condemned the strikes on Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron said that Russia is “demonstrating all the hypocrisy” of the ceasefire negotiations. “By attacking civilians, Russia shows not so much its strength as its weakness,” Macron wrote .
The Russian Ministry of Defense did not comment on the blows in Kyiv.
On May 14, a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping takes place in Beijing. Colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Dmitry Kashchenko said on Espresso that Russia deliberately chose this day to demonstrate its capabilities and increase pressure on the United States .
In addition, according to Kashchenko, one of the reasons for the truce announced by Russia before May 9 was the desire to tighten air defense systems to Moscow and reduce the risk of Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure and military targets.
Ukrainian authorities also linked the massive strike to Donald Trump's visit to China. Vladimir Zelensky, in particular, said that the attack during the days of negotiations between the United States and China was “not accidental” and was an attempt to spoil the political background and increase pressure on Ukraine.
According to a number of Ukrainian analysts, Moscow, by its actions on May 14, tried to show Washington and Beijing that without Russia it is impossible to discuss issues of security and ending the war . Experts believe that the Kremlin is thus demonstrating its readiness for further escalation.
