A resident of Penza was sentenced to 13 years in prison in a case of treason and comments “inciting” violence against participants in the war in Ukraine

The Penza Regional Court sentenced a 35-year-old Penza resident accused of high treason and calls for extremism to 13 years in a maximum security colony. The press service of the court reported this.

According to investigators, in 2022, the man gave information to a “representative of Ukraine” about a Russian serviceman participating in the war. Security officials also claim that in 2023, a Penza resident left comments in an unnamed messenger “inciting violent action” against participants in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The FSB reported that initially a resident of Penza was detained in connection with the comments, and during its investigation, security forces established that he had communicated with “a representative of the special services of Ukraine.”

The court release said the man “did not deny” his involvement in the crimes charged against him. The case was considered behind closed doors, the name of the Penza resident is hidden on the court’s website.

Along with the actual sentence, the court sentenced the man to a year of restriction of freedom after leaving prison and prohibited him from publishing anything on the Internet for two years.
