Putin and Xi Jinping met in Beijing. The parties signed 20 documents on cooperation, China extended the visa-free regime for Russians

On the morning of May 20, Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks at the Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Details of the meeting. After the negotiations, the parties adopted a joint declaration on “the establishment of a multipolar world and a new type of international relations,” as well as a statement “on strengthening a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction.”

Putin's assistant Yuri Ushakov noted that the document sets out the main directions for the development of Russian-Chinese relations and the general vision of the international agenda. Also, according to Ushakov, the delegations agreed on “something very important” in the energy sector.

According to TASS, the parties signed 20 documents on cooperation in various fields.

China has also extended the visa-free regime for Russians until the end of 2027. Thus, citizens of the Russian Federation can stay in the country without a visa for up to 30 days; only a foreign passport is required to enter.

What the parties say. In the open part of the talks, Putin said that relations between Moscow and Beijing had reached an “unprecedented high level” and became “an example of a truly comprehensive partnership.” He also called cooperation between Russia and China "one of the main stabilizing factors in the international arena" and said that the countries jointly advocate for a "more equitable democratic world order."

Xi Jinping, in turn, said that relations between the two countries “step by step have reached the current high level.” According to him, the world faces the risk of returning to the “law of the jungle,” and the treaty of friendship and cooperation between Russia and China acquires particular value against this background.
