Russia has banned the sale of several cognacs and wines from Armenia. This happened against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between the countries

Rospotrebnadzor has suspended the sale in the Russian Federation of wines and cognacs produced by three companies from Armenia: Vedi-Alko, Abovyan Brandy Factory and Shakhnazaryan Wine and Cognac House.

The ban included, in particular, semi-sweet red wine “Getap Vernashen”, dry white wine “Vedi Alko”, “Armenian cognac 5 stars” and cognac “Shahnazaryan XO”.

According to the department, alcohol from these producers does not meet “mandatory requirements.” What exactly is not specified.

Prohibitions against the backdrop of deteriorating relations. Previously, Rospotrebnadzor completely banned Armenian mineral water “Jermuk” in the Russian Federation. According to the department, the content of bicarbonate in it was exceeded.

The supervisory authority also had complaints against Armenian vegetables and fruits due to the “problems” discovered. Shortly before this, the department restricted the import of flowers from Armenia into the Russian Federation.

This is happening against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Moscow and Yerevan due to the latter’s rapprochement with the EU. In April, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia does not plan to return “to activity” in the CSTO.

At the beginning of May, the summit of the European Political Community was held in Yerevan, which was attended by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. After this, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu announced Armenia’s “unfriendly” policy towards the Russian Federation.
