The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the Oreshnik attack on Ukraine

Russian troops attacked “military control facilities” of Ukraine with the Oreshnik complex, as well as Iskander, Kinzhal and Zircon missiles, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

The department added that the strike was carried out in response to “terrorist attacks by Ukraine on civilian targets on Russian territory.”

Later, the Ministry of Defense clarified that among the targets were objects of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, military infrastructure, as well as control points of the Main Command of the Ground Forces and the Main Intelligence Directorate. The Russian department said that “no attacks were planned or carried out” against civilian infrastructure.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that the Oreshnik strike was carried out in the area of ​​Bila Tserkva (this is approximately 80 kilometers south of Kyiv). There is no information about the consequences of the strike. Vladimir Zelensky also confirmed the use of Oreshnik. “Putin can no longer even pronounce the word ‘hurray’ normally—he mumbles—and yet he still defeats residential buildings with his missiles. <…> He launched his “Oreshnik” against the Belaya Tserkov. Really inadequate,” he wrote.

In total, Russia used 90 missiles, including 36 ballistic ones, and 600 drones during the night attack. The main direction of attack was Kyiv. According to the latest data from the mayor of the capital of Ukraine Vitaliy Klitschko, two people died. More than 50 residents of Kyiv were injured, including children.

• On May 22, Vladimir Putin commented on the attack on the dormitory of the pedagogical college in Starobelsk in the Russian-controlled part of the Luhansk region, where 21 people were killed. He accused the Ukrainian Armed Forces of a “terrorist attack” and said that he had instructed the Russian Ministry of Defense to prepare a response.
