The idea of ​​“limited” membership of Ukraine in the EU was criticized in Kyiv

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky rejected Germany's proposal to grant Ukraine " associate membership " in the EU, which implies restrictions on some rights, in particular the right to vote in the bloc's most important decisions.

“ There cannot be a full-fledged European project without Ukraine, and Ukraine’s place in the European Union must also be full - full and equal ,” the president wrote on his social networks.

According to him, it is “ important ” to open negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s admission to the EU. “ It is important to make meaningful progress in the negotiations. It is important to work one hundred percent for the security and safety of our people ,” he added.

According to POLITICO, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently proposed granting Ukraine “ associate member ” status in the EU, which would include limited rights.

In response, Zelensky sent a letter to EU leaders, in which he emphasized that Kyiv is rapidly moving along the path of reforms that are necessary for full membership in the EU. At the same time, the president added, Ukraine protects Europe from Russian aggression.

“ We defend Europe - completely, not partially or halfway. It would be unfair if Ukraine was in the European Union, but remained without a voice ,” Zelensky’s letter says, as quoted by the Reuters news agency.
