On May 20, the Ulan-Ude Garrison Military Court sentenced contract soldier Alexander Khoroshikh to 16 years in a maximum security colony and a fine of 200 thousand rubles in the case of attempted murder, damage to property and drunk driving, the court’s press service reported .
According to the prosecution, in October 2025, a drunken military man, “out of personal hostility,” beat strangers with a poker and fists in an apartment.
After that, he left the apartment onto the veranda, propped up the front door with a washing machine, set fire to the sofa located on the veranda and disappeared. A fire started in the apartment, but the people remaining in the room managed to get out.
How exactly Khoroshikh got into the building and who the victims were is not specified in the message from the judicial press service. It is said that the house that was set on fire belonged to the municipal authorities.
The contract worker's charge of drunk driving does not directly relate to arson - this incident occurred a month earlier, on September 12, 2025.
“Mediazona” noticed that Khoroshikh had previously been convicted many times - in Buryatia at least seven times.
In 2019, he was tried for theft, insulting a government official, and complicity in damaging someone else’s property; in 2020, for purchasing drugs , robbery , and again a series of thefts in the Zakamensky district of the republic.
According to the latest verdict, Khoroshikh was sentenced to 4.5 years in a general regime colony; he served his sentence in IK-1 of Gusinoozersk. At the end of May 2022, a prisoner attacked one of the colony employees in the office premises of the punishment cell, where he was sent for smoking in the wrong place. According to the new sentence, Khoroshikh received 3.5 years of strict regime.
It is unknown whether the resident of Buryatia managed to fully serve his last sentence, but already in May-June 2024 Khoroshikh was tried as a military man for leaving his unit without permission.
Later, in December 2025, the Ulan-Ude Garrison Military Court sentenced the contract soldier to 5 years of strict regime for two thefts and car theft.
