The head of the food department of the Ministry of Defense, Viktor Tarazevich, was detained; according to RBC, he is accused of fraud

The head of the food department of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Viktor Tarazevich, was sent to a pre-trial detention center. According to two RBC sources in law enforcement agencies, a criminal case has been opened against the colonel under the article of fraud on an especially large scale.

According to the publication's interlocutors, Colonel Tarazevich was detained on May 20. The information about the initiation of a criminal case against the officer was confirmed to the publication in a military court. They also reported that at the request of the investigation, the court took Tarazevich into custody. The case is being investigated by the Main Military Investigation Department (GVSU) of the Investigative Committee.

According to RBC sources, the colonel does not admit guilt in the crime. Under the article of fraud on an especially large scale, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

The Food Department, which is headed by Tarazevich, is part of the Department of Resource Supply of the Ministry of Defense. It is responsible for organizing the nutrition of the Russian military: it ensures the supply of food, forms rations, controls the quality of food and manages military warehouses and bakeries.
