The organizers of the race on the Curonian Spit in Lithuania set a condition for Russians and Belarusians - they can only participate under the flag of Ukraine

The organizers of the Trail Kuršių Nerija trail race along the Curonian Spit in Lithuania said that participants from two “unfriendly” countries – Russia and Belarus – are “not welcome” at the event. In the registration regulations, as Volna reported, the names of both countries are deliberately written with a lowercase letter as “russia or belarus.”

At the same time, representatives of Russia and Belarus will be able to participate in the race if they fulfill four conditions:

  1. They will speak out in writing against Russia’s military actions.
  2. They will provide a residence permit issued by the Lithuanian authorities, and, if necessary, other documents.
  3. They will agree that their number will have the flag of Ukraine, and not Russia or Belarus.
  4. They agree that they do not apply for awards and prizes.

The organizers noted that they may not accept the submitted documents without explanation. In this case, the participant will be refunded the registration fee after the event.

The Trail Kuršių Nerija race is scheduled for October 17th. Registration began on June 1.

  • In Lithuania, there has been a debate for several months about whether to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in local competitions. Only those Russians and Belarusians who condemn military actions in writing and support Ukraine, and also compete without the national flag, can participate in international competitions held in the country.
