The author of the telegram channel “Free Lapland” was sentenced to 15 years in the case of treason and terrorism. He tried to commit suicide three times

23-year-old student, author of the telegram channel “Free Lapland ” Rafael Mamedov was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of treason and participation in a terrorist organization. This decision was made by the Northern Fleet Military Court in Severomorsk, Murmansk Region, OVD-Info reported on June 1.

According to the court decision, Mamedov will spend the first three years in prison, and the remaining term in a maximum security colony.

Mamedov has been in prison since May 2025. He was persecuted because of a telegram channel in which he published memes, photographs, facts from the history and mythology of Lapland, as well as articles on the website of the Coalition for Freedom from Imperial Tyrants. In his articles, Mamedov criticized the Russian authorities and, among other things, talked about the collapse of Russia. Mamedov did not admit guilt.

The case against him was brought after the court declared the Forum of Free States of Post-Russia terrorist. The “Free Lapland” channel was named one of more than 170 structural divisions of this organization, along with the non-existent “Belgorod People’s Republic” and “Kursk People’s Republic”.

Shortly before his arrest, Rafael Mamedov tried to commit suicide. He was detained in a psychoneurological clinic in Murmansk, after which he was arrested. Mamedov made two more suicide attempts - in the pre-trial detention center and during the transfer.
