Nvidia has also made a bid for dominance in the sector of processors for PCs and laptops, which is now shared by Intel and AMD. Its new chip is designed to work with agent AI on user devices.
The head of the company, Jensen Huang, at the Computex conference announced the launch of a line of systems on the RTX Spark chip with the N1X processor, created jointly with Microsoft. Laptops based on it from Microsoft, Dell, HP, ASUS, Lenovo and MSI should go on sale in the fall.
Huang said that RTX Spark will be as revolutionary as the transition from feature phones to smartphones. The main thing in the new system is its focus on computationally demanding agent AI with low power consumption. The specifications are impressive - a 20-core central processor, 6144 graphics cores and 128 GB of combined memory, connected by an NVLink server interface. The basic architecture of the chip is not x86, but Arm, so all this will work under a special Windows for Arm operating system from Microsoft.
Huang's presentation influenced literally all related companies and supported the rally of chipmakers. The shares of all future computer manufacturers with the Nvidia chip have risen noticeably, as has Arm Holdings, which is controlled by Masayoshi Son's SoftBank. Quotes of MediaTek, which will produce processors at TSMC facilities, jumped by more than 6%.
Competitors' quotes fell in the premarket. Qualcomm, which also promotes alternative PC architecture based on Snapdragon processors, fell by 6%, Intel and AMD by 5%.
