A former military man who killed a friend, filmed it, and dragged the corpse into the entrance, was sentenced to 15 years

The Central District Military Court in Yekaterinburg sentenced 27-year-old military man from Chelyabinsk Ranis Samatov, accused of murder with extreme cruelty (points “b”, “e”, “g” of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code) to 15 years in a maximum security colony. As follows from the case materials, Samatov was hospitalized in June 2024 due to injury. The Ministry of Defense terminated the contract with him, and in July he came to Chelyabinsk to visit his brother named Gatiyatullin. On September 16, they both met Fyodor Ivanov, in whose one-room apartment in the hostel they began to live and drink together every day.

On September 22, Ivanov’s acquaintance, 36-year-old Stepan Sandin, came to visit them - he often drank and lived where he would have to retire on disability due to cerebral palsy. He stayed overnight.

On the evening of September 23, a woman named Ismagilova joined the drunken company. That day, the drunken Sandin and Samatov had a strong quarrel: the deceased “expressed himself rudely” about Samatov’s mother. He hit him, and Sandin fell to the floor.

Samatov and Gatiyatullin took turns kicking and punching Sandin, and then, when he was unconscious, inflicted a total of at least 150 blows with a kitchen knife - they filmed the murder and even chose a “beautiful” angle.

Sandin's death occurred on the night of September 24. In the video, recorded after midnight, the men laugh and discuss the corpse, and then say that their friend's life is over because he spoke badly about his mother.

After this, the comrades carried Sandin’s corpse out of the apartment, dragged it up the stairs to the elevator, lowered it to the first floor and laid it under the stairs in the entrance. They tried to take off the dead man's clothes to wash them. After that, they returned to the apartment, from the door of which a trail of blood stretched to the corpse.

All those involved in the murder were detained on the same day - September 24. Ranis Samatov fully admitted his guilt and repented. In his written testimony, he said that he intended to “go to the Northern Military District.”

The court also learned that Ranis Samatov graduated from the ninth grade and grew up in an orphanage from the age of 13 to 18, although he was always on good terms with his father. Samatov’s father Rafis came to war from a colony, having signed a contract with the Wagner PMC for another six months, and died in March 2026 from a shrapnel wound. Samatov’s mother, in his words, “died a long time ago.”

In 2017, Samatov was sent to prison for murder and theft; in May 2019, he was convicted of robbery and theft. He was last released on November 30, 2022. Samatov signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense on February 24, 2024 and visited the SVO three times. In November 2024, by presidential decree, he received the state award “For Courage.”
