On the territory of the children’s camp “Chaika” in the village of Chernoistochinsk near Nizhny Tagil, a bust of the founder of the Cheka, Felix Dzerzhinsky, was unveiled. This was reported by Vecherniye Vedomosti.
The publication clarifies that the initiator of the installation of the monument was Dmitry Kostennikov, a deputy of the Nizhny Tagil City Duma from United Russia.
Dzerzhinsky’s great-nephew Vladimir came to the ceremony.
"Chaika" was abandoned until 2023. Later it was bought with the participation of deputy Kostennikov, who is creating the “First” sports and patriotic camp in Chernoistochinsk. The new owners named the institution after Felix Dzerzhinsky.
Dzerzhinsky is one of the initiators of the Red Terror that began during the Civil War. Millions of people in different parts of the former Russian Empire then died from repressions, executions and artificial famine.
