A Russian woman was detained in Georgia at the request of the United States. She is suspected of circumventing sanctions

Georgian police detained a Russian citizen at Tbilisi airport, against whom a criminal case has been filed in the United States. The lawyer of the detainee, Beka Nemsiteridze, told TV Pirveli about this.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on the arrest. According to the lawyer, the Russian woman is being investigated in the United States on several counts, including money laundering and complicity in criminal activity, and is related to the supply of sanctioned aircraft parts.

According to Human Rights Council member Eva Merkacheva, the detainee’s name is Tatyana Kurashkevich. She is an entrepreneur, a graduate student at the MGIMO Diplomatic Academy, and an expert on international trade.

“I read that they charge her (her husband provided the documents). Several points, all economic, about circumventing sanctions, etc. Prison terms are indicated there - three episodes of 20 years, one - 10. A total of 70 years. <…> Her extradition (which the United States insists on) would be a violation of international law. I would like to believe that Georgia will not do this. We are preparing an appeal,” Merkacheva said.

Nemsitveridze said that Kurashkevich came to Georgia as a tourist, and only learned about the criminal case in the United States at the Tbilisi airport.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the Russian woman is currently undergoing extradition proceedings to the United States. According to Merkacheva, a court in Tbilisi arrested Kurashkevich.
