In Barcelona, on the evening of June 10, a solemn ceremony took place to consecrate the Tower of Jesus Christ in the Sagrada Familia temple. The tallest tower of the famous temple was consecrated by Pope Leo XIV. This happened on the hundredth anniversary of the death of the architect Antonio Gaudi, according to whose design the cathedral has been built for more than a hundred years.

The Pope celebrated Mass in the church. As the BBC notes , taking into account the cross erected earlier this year, the height of the Tower of Jesus Christ is 172.5 meters. This makes the Sagrada Familia the tallest church in the world.

Construction under the leadership of Gaudí began back in 1883. By the time the architect died, only one of the 18 towers had been erected. With the consecration of the Tower of Jesus Christ, the main structure of the temple is almost completely constructed. Full completion of construction is planned for the next decade.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including King Felipe VI and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Thousands of drones formed a large glowing portrait of Gaudi in the air.
