Consequences of UAV attacks in southern Russia

The main topic of recent days in southern Russia remains attacks by Ukrainian drones. In Kuban, there was another fire at an oil refinery, drone debris fell on residential buildings, and dozens of flights were delayed at Sochi airport.

On the night of June 11, Ukrainian drones attacked the Krasnodar Territory, as well as the Black and Azov Seas. Once again the Afipsky oil refinery caught fire - the fire, according to the operational headquarters, has already been extinguished, but a state of emergency has been introduced in the area. The debris of the downed drones fell on areas with private houses and a gas pipeline, according to Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, one person was injured. In Krasnodar itself, debris broke glass and damaged the cladding of the facade of a residential high-rise building, a fire started in two apartments, and two people were injured.

The ASTRA telegram channel established that within a radius of three kilometers from the damaged house there are two military enterprises: the Cascade instrument plant and the manufacturer of batteries for the space industry Saturn, as well as a military airfield.

The day before, on the night of June 10, the main blow fell on the Rostov region. According to Governor Yuri Slyusar, more than a dozen drones were shot down over the region. In the Millerovsky district of the region, a fuel tank at an unnamed civilian facility caught fire: residents of nearby houses and nursing home residents were evacuated due to the fire. In the morning, the governor reported that the fire had been extinguished and, according to him, there were no casualties.

The day of June 9 in Kuban also turned out to be turbulent. In the Tuapse district, two private houses in the resort village of Dzhubga caught fire due to falling debris from a downed drone. According to the operational headquarters, there were no casualties, and eyewitnesses claim that one of the buildings is a multi-storey hotel. At the same time, a collapse began at Sochi airport: the unmanned danger mode was declared twice on the morning of June 9, 30 flights were delayed for departure, two were cancelled, and at least 32 more planes were late in arrival.

On the evening of June 9, an emergency happened in Dagestan: in the Kizilyurt district, an explosion occurred on the Mozdok-Kazimagomed gas pipeline and a large fire started. Local residents complained that the blast wave “trembled at home”; the height of the flames reached 15 meters. In total, more than 500 people were evacuated. The official reason is depressurization: the head of Kizilyurt, Said Mamathanov, said that reports of a drone strike or terrorist attack are not true.

The fire was extinguished only after the gas supply was stopped. After the fire, it became clear that 21 houses had previously been built in the security zone around the gas distribution station - now the authorities promise to remove these buildings.

Kadyrov's "personal killer" killed in the war in Ukraine

During the war in Ukraine, a repeatedly convicted crime boss from Chechnya, known as “Ramzan Kadyrov’s personal killer,” Artur Denisultanov, was killed . Mediazona writes about this with reference to a data leak from the Civil Registry Office. In 2023, Denisultanov was sentenced to six years in prison for fraud, but he signed a contract and went to the front. According to journalists, a year later he was killed. This information is not confirmed by other sources; the Chechen authorities also did not comment on it.

In 2023, the crime boss was found guilty of fraud amounting to 37 million rubles. He, under the guise of a “broker,” took money from a 26-year-old Muscovite, allegedly to exchange it for currency. Denisultanov faced up to 10 years in prison, but the court commuted the sentence due to participation in “combat operations” and some secret awards.

This is not Denisultanov’s first term. In 1998, he was tried for kidnapping, in 2000 - on charges of fraud, kidnapping, extortion, violence against a government official and forgery of documents.

In 2017, Denisultanov was accused of an attempt on the life of Adam Osmayev, commander of the Chechen battalion named after Dzhokhar Dudayev. He introduced himself as a journalist, and during the meeting he tried to kill Osmaev, but the latter’s wife, Amina Okueva, managed to wound the killer. Denisultanov spent two and a half years in a Ukrainian pre-trial detention center awaiting a court verdict. However, Russia managed to agree on his exchange - three days before this, the charges against the attacker were dropped.

Kadyrov's nephew received the Order of Kadyrov

The nephew of the head of Chechnya, Abbas Kadyrov, received the highest award of the republic - the Order of Kadyrov. The ceremony took place on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Russian Guard regiment "South". The reason for the award, according to a publication in Ramzan Kadyrov’s telegram channel, was, quote, “impeccable service, high professionalism and fidelity to duty” - specific merits were not named in the post. Since 2023, Abbas Kadyrov has headed the private security department of the Russian Guard in the Grozny region; before that, he served in the Terek SOBR.

At the same ceremony, the cousin of the head of Chechnya, Abdul-Karim Kadyrov, was awarded the rank of police lieutenant colonel ahead of schedule. In 2025, he headed the Akhmat-Fortress riot police, although four years earlier he had not passed the qualification tests for the right to wear a maroon beret.

Meanwhile, it became known that the relatives of the commander of the Akhmat special forces, Apti Alaudinov, serve under his command in an elite battalion in the deep rear - the publication "That's So" writes about this. The Vakha battalion is deployed at least 20 kilometers from the border with Ukraine - near the village of Borisovka, Belgorod region. It is headed by Alaudinova’s cousin Vakha Saaev, the former deputy head of the Urus-Martan district police department. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, he received three Orders of Courage - for what exactly is unknown.

Four more Saayev brothers and two distant relatives of the commander also serve there. The battalion has game consoles, plasma TVs, its own bathhouse and laundry, and the fleet includes Chinese SUVs and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck - a used car of this configuration costs about 10 million rubles. Political scientist Dmitry Dubrovsky comments on the practice in which relatives are in a “special” position:

“They weren’t the first to come up with this. And this practice exists for other so-called “veterans” who are sent from Russian regions, as a rule, from some circles near the governor, so that they receive the status of “veteran” and then appear as a veteran in reporting.

This is a completely common practice, as far as I understand, also known from Chechnya, of all kinds of fake military formations that do not participate at the front, do not participate in military clashes, do not participate in any way at all, and pretend to be active. They will stay for a month or two and return with the status of a veteran. I think that this doesn’t tell us anything new, except that this entire elite is ready to leave people to die, but they themselves are not at all ready to die. She [the elite] is ready to use the status of a veteran to walk around and rattle medals. And, by the way, quite anger the “z-military correspondents”, who also know about this and also write with great irritation. They, in general, try to hide, but, as we see, not well enough."

Absentee sentence against Anastasia Shevchenko

Rostov activist Anastasia Shevchenko, who left Russia, was found guilty of promoting terrorism due to the fees she announced in support of the Ukrainian Azov battalion. The Southern District Military Court sentenced her in absentia to 17 years in a general regime colony.

The case,according to the court, was based on two videos that Shevchenko published on her social networks in February 2025. In them, she talked about fundraising in favor of Azov, which was recognized as terrorist in Russia. This was classified as a "terrorist financing organization."

Shevchenko herself said that the verdict of the Russian court will not stop her - she is waiting for at least two more verdicts in cases of non-compliance with the requirements of a “foreign agent” and participation in the Anti-War Committee.

Let us recall that before the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Anastasia Shevchenko was the coordinator of the Open Russia movement in Rostov-on-Don and in 2021 she became the first in the country to be convicted under the article of cooperation with an “undesirable organization.”

Meanwhile, in the Stavropol region, a resident of the village of Staroizobilnenskaya became a defendant in a criminal case after he drunkenly lit a cigarette near the Eternal Flame. Now he faces up to five years in prison. The 38-year-old resident has already admitted guilt and repented, the security forces said. Nothing has been announced about the preventive measure during the investigation. Under the article on desecration of military graves, he faces a fine of two to five million rubles, compulsory work for up to 480 hours, forced labor or imprisonment for up to five years.
