A resident of Crimea was sentenced to 17 years in a maximum security colony in the case of attempting to hide explosives on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence.

The Sevastopol City Court sentenced 50-year-old Simferopol resident Leonid Goretsky to 17 years in a maximum security colony in the case of cooperation with the Ukrainian special services. The verdict was announced by the press service of the local prosecutor's office.

Goretsky was found guilty of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code) and illegal possession of explosives and explosive devices (clause “c” of Part 3 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code). In addition to the real sentence, he was sentenced to a year of restriction of freedom and a fine of 300 thousand rubles.

According to investigators, in January 2025, a Crimean citizen came to Sevastopol with the goal of hiding explosives from one cache to another. After this, the man was detained by FSB officers. The prosecution alleged that Goretsky acted on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence.

According to information on the court's website, the verdict was announced on June 15. The materials were submitted to the court for consideration at the end of May.
