On Monday, the first Unified State Exams (USE) in English took place in Russia. Graduates were unexpectedly asked to talk about the meaning of National Unity Day, Victory Day, Defender of the Fatherland Day, Russia Day, May 1 and other holidays. The channel “Caution, News” drew attention to this.

⚪️ Details. According to the schoolchildren, in the written part they were required to talk about the origin and significance of public holidays celebrated in Russia. They admitted that they were not ready for such tasks. This is noted by their teachers and tutors.

“To figure it out, you need to have C1. It seems like nonsense, but try to formulate it briefly as you go. I have two renting. I'm afraid that the weaker one won't remember what Defenders' day is. He won’t remember the verb defend,” said one of the teachers.

Many also point out the difficulty of the word commemorate and other specific words that are at least C1 level. Teachers note that they prepared children for many universal topics, such as hobbies, travel, art, ecology, etc., but not for the interpretation of Russian holidays.

“Last year, my student wrote a letter to the maximum. Topic: "Scientists and discoveries." It seemed to me that there was nothing more terrible. But no, it turns out we haven’t seen National Unity Day yet,” said one of the teachers.

According to tutors, many of their students experienced stress during the exam. They believe that such knowledge is more relevant to a history exam.
