In the Irkutsk region it is allowed to kill stray dogs

The Legislative Assembly of the Irkutsk Region adopted a bill allowing the killing of stray animals. It will come into force on October 1. Previously, local residents actively opposed the initiative.

Details. The bill was supported by 35 deputies out of 40 present, and now Governor Igor Kobzev must sign it.

The initiative was introduced by the Association of Mayors under the leadership of Vadim Semenov, the mayor of Cheremkhov. The law will allow the introduction of an extraordinary situation in the region in the event of a dog attack on people. While it is in effect, all captured dogs can be killed after 11 days.

The mayor of Cheremkhov tried to justify himself and said that no law would completely solve the problem with homeless animals.

“No law can completely solve the problem, a big disaster that has been building up for decades. The Association of Mayors is not for the thoughtless destruction of animals. This [law] will allow us to protect our children in a certain period and in a certain territory. Society itself has created this problem through irresponsible treatment of animals,” he said.

Protests. At the end of April, a rally was held in Irkutsk to collect signatures against the adoption of a law on the euthanasia of stray dogs, and dozens of local residents took part in it.

“7x7” notes that on April 15, the court fined Irkutsk animal activist Tatyana Tayurskaya, who went on a solo picket against the adoption of the law, 12 thousand rubles. The court recognized dog-shaped balloons as a means of visual propaganda.
