Suspects in the murder of artist Skrepetsky were released

Two Belarusian citizens detained in Poland as part of the investigation into the murder of artist Semyon Skrepetsky have been released. This was stated by the representative of the District Prosecutor's Office in Lublin, Marcin Kozak.

Investigation. According to him, the version about the involvement of the detainees in the crime was not confirmed. They were questioned as witnesses and released.

Kozak noted that the prosecutor’s office has several versions of what happened, but he refused to disclose them. The investigation is ongoing.

Context. Semyon Skrepetsky was shot dead on June 15 in the town of Biała Podlaska on the border of Poland and Belarus. According to media reports, an unknown person fired several shots at the artist and then fled.

The publication DzikMedia wrote that the killer was brought to the crime scene by a taxi driver from Belarus, who did not know about the impending murder. Later, the alleged criminal and his accomplice tried to hide on the territory of the Belarusian consulate, but they were detained, the prosecutor’s office said.

⚪️ Who is this? Semyon Skrepetsky is a Russian artist, musician and blogger. He is known for his satirical, political and anti-war paintings. Most often he made caricatures of Vladimir Putin and Joseph Stalin. In 2021, he left Russia for Poland due to the risk of political persecution.

Last week Skrepetsky held a performance in Berlin - he came to the Brandenburg Gate in bast shoes, with a Russian flag tied to his pants and a painting depicting Stalin “feeding” Putin.
