The two-state solution is the only possible one, and it is slowly but surely coming to the fore again. Neither Hamas, with its October 7 massacre, nor the Israeli right and ultra-right, which threatened to destroy Gaza, succeeded in burying this idea. French MEP Bernard Guetta writes about this following the forum in support of a Palestinian state, which the French Foreign Ministry held the day before. In his opinion, the “bad shepherds” of both peoples have become political bankrupt, and now the handful of utopians who gathered under the slogan “Two peoples, two states, one future” need international and, above all, European support. Well, this is not the first time for France to support its own and other people’s utopias.

“I don’t see any other solution,” he said unequivocally when I asked whether he still believed in the possibility of coexistence between Israel and the yet-to-be-established Palestinian state. The former Palestinian minister, a veteran of peace negotiations, rushed to end the discussion, clearly irritated that such questions were still being asked.

On Friday, June 12, he attended a forum in support of a two-state solution, organized by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, because it must be repeated again and again - against all winds, despite bombs and missiles - that peace is impossible without mutual recognition of Palestine and Israel. Otherwise, what?
