The new Prime Minister of Hungary achieved the exclusion of mention of the accelerated accession of Ukraine from the declaration of EU leaders

Newly appointed Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar managed to remove any mention of the possibility of Ukraine's accelerated entry into the bloc from the EU leaders' statement, which was approved at the bloc's summit in Brussels.

“ Regarding the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU, the clause on accelerating membership was removed from the text at the very last moment on my initiative. It was not easy ,” Magyar wrote on his social networks.

This happened immediately after Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky called for his country to be admitted to the EU under an accelerated procedure.

“ Ukraine is counting on an accelerated process. I know that not all leaders like this format - accelerated. I mean, they want the most understandable and clear steps for everyone, but we are not “everyone,” with all due respect ,” the president said.

Magyar was appointed prime minister of Hungary after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's party suffered a crushing defeat in the April 12 elections .

Over the past few years, Orban has repeatedly stated that his government will block Ukraine's accession to the EU.
