The criminal case against Kruglov became known in October 2025. Since then, the politician has been under arrest.
The reason for the persecution was two publications in his Telegram channel. In one of them, Kruglov wrote about the events in Bucha, in another he published a photograph of the destroyed Mariupol and talked about the dead civilians with reference to UN data.
Kruglov did not admit guilt. During the trial, the defense insisted that the publications contained no signs of hatred, aggression or deliberately false information.
In his last word, the politician stated that when preparing the publication about the dead civilians, he used UN data as a reliable source of information. Speaking about the destruction in Mariupol, he emphasized that he used the wording “apparently,” which indicates an assumption.
“This is hell, it’s impossible not to talk about it, an investigation is necessary. How is this spreading deliberately false information?” - said Kruglov in the last word.
