Azimuth Airlines reported a shortage of jet fuel

The carrier announced a reduction in kerosene supplies by a third and a sharp rise in prices

Azimuth Airlines, based in Rostov-on-Don, announced an acute shortage of aviation fuel in southern Russia. According to Kommersant, the carrier appealed to the Association of Air Transport Operators with a request to intervene in the situation.

According to Azimuth, since the beginning of June, purchasing prices for aviation kerosene on average in Russia have increased by more than 17%, and actual supply volumes have decreased by about a third compared to those stipulated in contracts. At Makhachkala airport, the cost of fuel increased by 64%.

Azimuth warned that the current situation already poses a threat to flights to destinations in the North Caucasus.

Supplies decreased due to problems at refineries after attacks by drones of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

As the airline notes, one of its key suppliers reduced supply volumes by 30% in early June, citing force majeure at a number of oil refineries.

The company attributes the fuel shortage to logistics restrictions, redistribution of raw material flows, as well as planned and unscheduled work at the refinery. The search for alternative suppliers, according to the carrier, did not yield any results: additional quantities are either unavailable or are offered at significantly higher prices.

Almost all major oil refineries in European Russia have been attacked by Ukrainian drones in recent months. According to Reuters, by the end of the second ten days of June, gasoline production fell by about 25% compared to June 2025.

The increase in fuel prices in Russia has become a record in 20 years

Against the backdrop of a fuel shortage in Russia , prices for gasoline and diesel fuel continue to rise sharply.

According to Rosstat, during the week from June 16 to 22, the average price of gasoline at gas stations increased by 3%, and diesel fuel by 2.7%. This is the largest weekly increase in gasoline prices for the entire period of comparable statistics.

The average price of gasoline in Russia as of June 22 reached 71.20 rubles per liter. Gasoline AI-92 rose in price to 67.54 rubles per liter, AI-95 - to 73.20 rubles, AI-98 - to 96.51 rubles. The average cost of diesel fuel increased to 82.93 rubles per liter.

Since the beginning of 2026, gasoline prices have already risen by 9.8%, and diesel fuel by 8.6%. By comparison, official inflation for this period was 5.85%.

A particularly noticeable increase in prices was recorded in the republics of the North Caucasus: in Dagestan, gasoline prices rose by 16.5% over the week, in Chechnya by 15.2%.

The fuel crisis has affected dozens of regions

According to industry sources and Russian media, restrictions on fuel sales and supply disruptions have already affected more than 60 Russian regions.

After a series of attacks on refineries, Russian authorities began to discuss additional measures to support the market. The government has already allowed the production of gasoline with certain deviations from current quality standards, is considering the possibility of importing fuel from abroad and is negotiating for additional supplies.
