Rosstat recorded a 20-year record jump in fuel prices

During the week from June 16 to June 22, retail fuel prices in Russia increased by an average of 3%, according to Rosstat data. This is the strongest weekly jump in at least the last 20 years, writes Bloomberg. Over the past three weeks, fuel prices have risen by a total of 5%, notes The Moscow Times.

Prices. According to Rosstat, the average price of gasoline over the week increased from 69.11 to 71.20 rubles (+3.02%). AI-92 rose in price from 65.41 rubles to 67.54 rubles (+3.26%), AI-95 - from 71.11 to 73.20 (+2.94%), AI-98 - from 95.38 to 96.51 (+1.18%), diesel - from 80.78 to 82.93 (+2.66%).

Over the past week, an increase in gasoline prices was recorded in 78 regions, especially in Dagestan (+16.5%) and Chechnya (+15.2%). In Moscow, the price increase was +1.9%, in St. Petersburg - +0.2%.

The highest gasoline prices were recorded in annexed Sevastopol (~90.85 rubles per liter), Tyva (90.63 rubles), Dagestan (87 rubles), Chechnya (86.15 rubles) and Kamchatka Territory (85.98 rubles).

Crisis. The fuel crisis facing Russia this year is “the worst in two decades,” Energy Intelligence analysts write. After a series of Ukrainian attacks on refineries, gasoline production in Russia fell by 25% and is now 20% short of domestic consumption, Reuters notes.

Against the backdrop of a fuel shortage, restrictions on fuel supply were introduced at gas stations throughout Russia. According to Reuters, Russia is negotiating with Kazakhstan to import about 50 thousand tons of AI-92 gasoline.
