A Ukrainian flag was installed on the Kinburn Spit, which has been under Russian occupation since 2022. The regional department of the territorial defense forces “South” reported this and published a video with the flag.
Details. The Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that over the past 24 hours, they killed or wounded 78 Russian military personnel, and also destroyed 57 pieces of equipment on the spit. They claim that Ukraine is launching aviation, drones, missiles and artillery into the Russian Armed Forces. As a result, logistics were almost completely cut off.
“The supply of ammunition, food and fuel has practically stopped. A soldier without food and fresh water cannot fight. Therefore, according to intelligence data, [the Russian military] are now evacuating,” said Colonel Denis Nosikov, commander of the Odessa OTU.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the information about the loss of complete control over the Kinburn Spit.
What a braid. The Kinburn Spit is a part of the Kinburn Peninsula between the Dnieper-Bug Estuary and the Black Sea, located on the territory of the Nikolaev region. The Russian military occupied the spit in March 2022, entering from the Kherson region.
The main problem with holding the scythe is related to logistics, military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko told New Europe . He noted that the Ukrainian defense forces fired artillery at it and carried out drone strikes on moving equipment. Because of this, the supply of Russian units in the Kherson region and on the Kinburn Spit has become as complicated as possible.
Kovalenko suggested that the flag could have been planted by a small Ukrainian sabotage group that landed on the spit and then went to Ochakov. In his opinion, the very fact of raising the Ukrainian flag proves that Russia has lost complete control over the peninsula.
The meaning of the braid. Starting from the Kinburn Spit, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to expand their control deeper into the Kherson region, the expert believes. According to him, in the next two months the Ukrainian military will be able to create a zone of their control there. In this case, the navigation of ships in the Dnieper estuary will be simplified. In addition, the pressure on the defense of Nikolaev and Ochakov, which came under Russian artillery fire from the Kinburn Spit, will be eased.
The number of Russian kamikaze drone attacks on the Odessa and Nikolaev regions should also significantly decrease, says Kovalenko. In his opinion, the expulsion of the Russian military from the Kinburn Spit can be considered the beginning of an operation to liberate Crimea, which can start in the Kherson region.
