The second of the missing sisters in the river was found in Armenia; the rescuer who found the girls was awarded

The medal “For Impeccable Service” was awarded to professional rescue diver Vahe Melkonyan. It was he who was able to discover the bodies of two girls who had previously disappeared in the waters of the Pambak River in the Armenian city of Vanadzor.

The award ceremony took place with the participation of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia Arpine Sargsyan. The Republic highly appreciated the services of Vahe Melkonyan during the rescue operation.

The tragedy with the Martirosyan sisters - 7-year-old Nara and 13-year-old Marina - occurred on June 15 in Vanadzor. During the day they left the house, but never arrived at their destination. As it turned out later, the children tried to cross the river using an abandoned pipe connecting the banks, but they could not resist and fell into a stormy stream.

Search efforts started immediately. Two days later, on June 17, diver Vahe Melkonyan found the body of the youngest of the sisters in the Pambak River. On June 23, we managed to find the older girl. About 1,700 people were involved in the large-scale search: rescuers, police officers, diving teams and volunteers.
