In Karachay-Cherkessia, they have been searching for a missing Muscovite for eight days

The search for the Moscow tourist, who on June 19 found himself in the waters of the mountain river Uchkulan in Karachay-Cherkessia, has been ongoing for the eighth day. The press department of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on this.

“In total, during the rescue operation, rescuers checked over 150 kilometers of terrain. The shoreline, river bed and adjacent landscape areas are being inspected, as well as areas of flooding and debris accumulation,” the department’s release clarifies.

According to rescuers, today's activities are difficult due to unfavorable weather conditions and rising water levels in the river.

The incident occurred on June 19. Two tourists from Moscow were rafting on Uchkulan in the Karachaevsky district when, due to a catamaran capsizing, both fell into the water. One of the men managed to escape on his own, but the second was dragged underwater by a strong current.

According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, 285 people, including 60 children, have died in water bodies since the beginning of June.
