A case of treason was opened in the Tomsk region due to photographs with data of Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine

In the Tomsk region, local residents were detained in a case of treason, RIA Tomsk reports with reference to the regional department of the FSB. The intelligence service did not specify details about the identities of the detainees and their exact number.

According to investigators, the defendants collected information about Russian military personnel, “including” those killed in the war in Ukraine. The FSB also released a video with footage of the arrest and materials from the case. As follows from the screenshots of the correspondence shown in the video, the customer offered from 20 thousand for 100 photographs to 100 thousand rubles for 400 photographs. It also shows a message dated April 18 with a receipt for the transfer of 25 thousand rubles.

The detainees are charged with treason “in the form of espionage,” the video says. Investigators believe that the photographs were ordered in the interests of the Ukrainian special services.

The Astra publication noted that the FSB decided to strengthen control over cemeteries in the Sverdlovsk region due to the fact that the graves could be photographed. Earlier, a girl was detained there who, according to security forces, sent photographs to a “curator” in Ukraine for 80 rubles apiece. Later, security forces detained another girl who was taking photographs of graves in Yekaterinburg. The Antiterror Ural channel then reported that she could face an article on treason.

According to the Russian authorities, he uses such photographs to create “deepfakes” in order to contact the relatives of the victims, convince them that their loved one is alive and in Ukrainian captivity - after which they demand money for his return.
