Telega stops working

Telega, an alternative Telegram client, announced it will close on July 1. It is interesting that the creators refer simultaneously to internal (impossibility of full localization with compliance with all requirements) and external reasons (removal from the App Store).

“Telega showed a working business model, gathered an audience of millions and came a long way in very difficult conditions,” writes the official account.

• Last year, Telega skyrocketed using Telegram blocks as the easiest way to “bypass” them and gained more than a million downloads on Google Play alone. In April of this year, Cloudflare flagged two Telega domains as “Spyware”, revoked their security certificates, and then removed the client’s application from the App Store.
• Research showed that Telega could replace Telegram servers with its own, located in Kazan, that is, all MTProto traffic passes through infrastructure in Russia, where by law it must be provided to the authorities upon request. Moreover, the application transmitted a phone number, Telegram ID and information about VPN use to VK through the MyTracker service. Calls are routed through the Odnoklassniki infrastructure.
