At the Finnish Embassy in Vienna, Chechen activists again demand protection for refugees from the North Caucasus

Representatives of the Chechen diaspora in Vienna organized a protest in front of the Finnish embassy. The main demand of the activists was to prevent the extradition to Russia of refugees from the North Caucasus, who face the threat of torture and repression in their homeland. Human rights activist Roza Dunaeva provided information about this.

Dunaeva emphasized that a significant number of people from the North Caucasus who seek asylum in Finland risk being left without international protection and being sent back to Russia. The protesters called on the Finnish authorities to make decisions on granting asylum based on the norms of international law and humanism and without political pressure from Moscow.

She also recalled the ongoing systemic human rights violations in the North Caucasus republics, including political persecution, unjustified arrests, torture and abductions.

Recently, a meeting of representatives of the Chechen diaspora was also held in Helsinki, dedicated to protecting the rights of migrants and refugees. The protesters asked the Finnish authorities to stop forming a negative attitude towards natives of Chechnya and Ingushetia seeking asylum in the country.
