FT: Argentina is preparing a program to obtain “golden passports”

Argentina is preparing to launch a program that will allow foreigners to obtain citizenship by investment, the Financial Times reports, citing sources.

According to the publication, two options for participation are being considered: a non-refundable donation of about $500 thousand or the purchase of government bonds for one million dollars. The terms of the program have not yet been finalized and may change.

As the FT notes, the authorities expect that the program will help raise funds to service the public debt. If launched, Argentina will become one of the largest countries in the world offering so-called “golden passports” for investments. Argentine citizenship provides visa-free entry to almost 170 countries.

After the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Argentina became one of the destinations for Russian emigrants. In 2025, the authorities tightened migration legislation, which, according to the FT, was also due to the preparation of a new investment program.
