The interlocutor did not answer why exactly the protocol was drawn up. According to Nezavisimaya Gazeta, the case is related to a seven-year-old post “criticizing one of the leaders of the non-systemic opposition.”
Nurlan Munzhasarov planned to run for the State Duma in September. Punishment under the article on displaying extremist symbols, in addition to a fine, imposes a ban on being elected for one year.
Before the elections, at least 15 opposition politicians were punished under the article on displaying extremist symbols, of which 11 were members of Yabloko, three of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, and one of the Candidates’ Headquarters.
