Russian airlines have almost 20% of their fleet idle in the summer. The norm is considered to be 10%

11 Russian airlines, which provide more than 90% of passenger traffic, have 130 out of 673 aircraft idle in the summer - this is 19.3% of the fleet, Kommersant calculated.

The largest fleet is owned by the Aeroflot group of companies - it consists of 349 aircraft. Of these, 37 aircraft do not fly (that is, about 10%, which experts consider a normal figure). But the rest of the airlines collectively have almost a third of their fleet idle - 93 out of 322 aircraft.

The largest private airline S7 has the most planes not flying: 33 out of 104 (mainly due to problems with engines). The situation is best with Pobeda Airlines, which flies all 42 Boeing 737s in the summer.

The main reason for the downtime, as Kommersant writes, was prolonged maintenance. At the same time, experts interviewed by the newspaper note that a third of the largest airlines have a non-flying fleet - this is “a good indicator” for an industry that has been under sanctions for almost five years. However, the situation, they say, could get worse due to aging aircraft and expiring resources.
