Most Russian theaters are preparing for the next season, and Mariinka has just closed the previous one. A new production of Evgeny Onegin was shown here under the curtain, which replaced the famous version of Yuri Temirkanov (see this is a joint production of Mariintsev and the Chatelet Theater.
Directors deprived the performance of the usual accommodation of Russian life.
The scene is fenced with huge cream shirs, and through a narrow gap between them you can see either giant mutant trees, then the night sky. Heroes are exhausted from despondency in the village wilderness and dream of love. The mise -en -scenes are predictable and are similar to all the "Onegin" in the world. However, Tatyana Irina Mataeva is good. Tender and touching, she is at first terribly afraid of surging feelings. Erotic languor “Mlade of the Virgin” gradually turns into a real passion. But Vladimir Moroz in the role of Onegin, on the contrary, is extremely inexpressive. And it looks not like the “London dandy”, but to a demobilized soldier.
In the third act, the directors did without the Greminsky ball. The curtain opened, and it turned out that Onegin was stomping at the front door, not daring to enter inside. Explanations and insights are played out in St. Petersburg frost (the French did not deny themselves the pleasure of covering everything around with magnificent white snow and arrange a defile of fur products). Onegin meets with Tatyana, like Herman with Lisa, - in the snow in the snow, against the backdrop of a terrible black sky. It seems that the sound in the final is another extra beat, and the hero would have shot himself. Maria Babalova
