"4400"
Plot The producer of the original series gave the go-ahead for the radical divergence of “The Others” from the original plot already from the middle of the first season. To please the large female audience of the channel, the romantic lines have been strengthened and a backstory for the acquaintance of the main characters has been invented.
World Instead of the National Security Agency, a special department is investigating mysterious events without reference to any real department. The domestic serial tradition has firmly hammered into the heads of viewers the image of a hardened cop who would never investigate the supernatural. In the United States, it’s the other way around: myths about aliens traditionally circulate around the CIA and the American military, and American cinema happily exploits this feature.
Characters Characters who disappeared in various historical eras are resettled on local soil - heroes disappear in the post-war USSR in 1946, at the end of the empire in 1989 and in modern Russia in 2010. The African-American hero, kidnapped before the abolition of slavery in the United States, was replaced due to the new cultural and historical reality with a prisoner from Soviet camps.
Direct speech Daria Fialko, general director of the TV-3 channel: “We asked questions to the producers of “4400”: “Tell me, how was everything supposed to end in “4400?” And they say: “We have no idea, we write first, and then the heroes lead us.” This is not accepted in Russia. This is not a question of what is correct, we just have different traditions. Just as in America there is a tradition of vertical series, and here we have a tradition of horizontal ones. Of course, when we film the first season, we don’t put a bullet point at the end—we also leave a hook there, a potential groundwork for the second season. But nevertheless, we are still winding down history.”
The American series “4400” talked about the mysterious disappearances of people over the years and their unexpected appearance in modern times. All four and a half hundred missing were experimental subjects of aliens and inherited supernatural abilities from them.
The Russian adaptation was undertaken by the TV-3 channel, which several years ago called itself “the first mystical”.
