Doctors of the Royal Free Hospital, located in London, developed a medicine that may win Alzheimer's disease. In the brain suffering from this disease, plaques from amyloid protein are formed, which are not absorbed by the cells of the immune system. This is because these plaques also contain blood protein - serum amyloid P (SAP), which prevents splitting. Scientists hope that with the help of a new drug it will be possible to reduce the concentration of SAP in the blood, and then the plaques are “exposed” and begin to resolve. The medicine does not penetrate the hematoencephalic barrier (a special system that protects the brain from toxic substances dissolved in the blood) and, according to the researchers, will not have a side effect on the central nervous system.
