Russia shells Ukraine on New Year's Eve. There have been reports about the work of air defense in the Kyiv, Kharkov and Kherson regions. Explosions are also heard over the Vinnytsia region.

Iran's Supreme Court has upheld the appeal of 25-year-old Iranian Sahand Nur Mohammadzadeh from a death sentence for his participation in protests. He was arrested in early October and sentenced to death in early December, accused of damaging public property, including setting a trash can on fire during anti-government protests that have raged in Iran since September. Mohammadzadeh does not admit guilt. On December 14, he went on a hunger strike to protest the unjust sentence.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have liberated 1,884 settlements in the country from Russian occupation, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine. Among other results of the year summed up by the body are 15,199 infrastructure facilities restored after Russian shelling and the strengthening of the northern border of Ukraine.
